I've found, and this isn't at all necessary, that putting out all major events (adding as you learn more) and estimating how much they would cost on a Excel spreadsheet (my preferred method, since it can add things for you, but you can use anything you'd like) really works in keeping track of how much you need.
As of right now, I need $800 something for all the cons, birthdays, and other events. But that's at MINIMUM. So I know I need to work extra to get what I need.
Also, it's useful for credit cards, cause then you'll be able to track and see if someone is thieving it...o.o"
